Gospel of Mark - Reading Diary A

The Gospel of Mark

In the first half of the Gospel of Mark, I read about the early stages of the life of Jesus Christ. Mark walks through how Jesus interacted with people and how he treated his peers. He begins by describing John the Baptist, a cousin of Jesus. John was born to make way for the Savior of the world and baptized people in water to symbolize a cleanse of sins and being saved by God.

My favorite chapter was Jesus and the Twelve. I thought it was a great chapter because it really sums up a lot about who Jesus is and his mission. In the beginning of the chapter, the Pharisees are judging Jesus and doesn't let their wrongful attitude effect him. The Pharisees thought Jesus was blasphemous and was ruining their religious laws.

As the chapter continues, Jesus names his twelve disciples. These are men he teaches and mentors daily to share the good news of his coming.

" he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: and Simon he surnamed Peter; and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, "The sons of thunder," and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot."

Jesus says whoever follows the will of God is his brother.
